Time to go South

Samburu, Kenya is the furthest North on the African continent this trip will take us.

This past week our road trip South has started. The last couple of days we travelled from:

Nanyuki – Bissil – Namanga border – Arusha – Tarangire National Park

The next couple of days we will travel to:

Dodoma – Iringa – Mbeya – and into Zambia

Fastest border crossing to date:  Kenya into Tanzania – it took us 12 minutes and 22 seconds 😊

We have been warned of fuel shortages in Tanzania, and lack of fuel stations in Zambia so we bought extra jerry cans in Arusha.  Our very full land rover is now a little more stuffed, but one cannot do a road trip without diesel. The warnings were not just rumor – the first fuel station we stopped at after Arusha was dry – luckily the one across the road still had fuel and we joined the que of cars to fill up.  Plan is to fill up where we can!

The technology of communication/social media/whats app these days is amazing! By just chatting about going on a road trip we have scored top tips including a must visit butchery in Mbeya, a clearing agent at Tunduma border, and campsites all over the place! There are apps for everything, ‘exploring’ has been simplified!

This post comes to you from the veranda of Tarangire Safari Lodge where we are now watching hundreds of buffalo in the valley below. This place will always be a personal favorite and close to our hearts.  Two nights here to see good friends, and get our bush fix.  Am hoping it’s a sample of everything that is still to come!

Coming up next – unchartered waters 😊
